Masters in Teaching and Learning

28 Jun 2009

I have had strong reactions to my article on the BBC website this week, in which I looked at the issues surrounding the proposed new Masters in Teaching and Learning -  which the government expects all new teachers to achieve within five years of qualifying.

You can see the article under 'articles' on this website or at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/8121574.stm

I have also been sounding out views across the profession on the new MTL for a programme I am making for Teachers TV, to be broadcast in the autumn. Some are very enthusiastic; others not at all.

Much will depend on how practical, and school-based, the MTL turns out to be. If it is a way of helping new teachers to settle into the profession - whilst also offering development - then it could be a good thing. If it's another compulsory  burden, it will do more damage than good.
